Reservoirs in Hong Kong are not only livelihood facilities, but they also contribute to the natural and artificial beauty in the countryside. One such example is Tai Lam Chung Reservoir, also known as Thousand-island Lake, in Tuen Mun.  Completed in 1957, Tai Lam Chung Reservoir was the first reservoir built in Hong Kong after the Second World War.  Since the original site of the reservoir was in the hills and valleys, as water fills the area, islands of varying sizes emerge.  With Chinese Red Pine, Slash Pine, Swamp Mahogany, and Lemon-scented Gum, the island is verdant with a view of Thousand Island Lake. Reservoir Islands Viewpoint is located on Section 10 of the MacLehose Trail.  The signage displaying the scenic beauty of Tai Lam Chung Reservoir indicates the entrance of a footpath made of timber and sand.  Take the steps and walk for about 200 metres, you will reach the Viewpoint overlooking the entire Thousand Island Lake with the upstream dam of Tai Lam Chung Tsuen, To Hang Tung and Siu Lam to the South.  The view even extends to Lantau Island.
