Unlike Country Parks, Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve has
no barbecue area or campsite, and naked flames
are strictly prohibited. These measures are aimed
at protecting the local flora and fauna. Lying
near the entrance of the Reserve, Tai Po Kau Nature
Trail focuses on forest ecology.
Meandering up a
slope, the trail travels deep into thick forests.
This is an excellent spot for studying woodland ecology.
The vegetation comprises of towering trees and other
plants taking up different levels of the forest.
Some climbers crawl up tree branches to compete for
sunlight. Shrubs that can better adapt to dim conditions
form the understorey. On the ground, there are ferns,
mosses and lichens which can survive in extremely

trail is wonderfully relaxed, in which you can listen
to sweet songs of birds. A great variety of native
trees grow here. Their fruit attract forest birds
to roost and feed while the reserve also supports
many mammals and colourful butterflies.
