Section 11 of the Lantau Trail starts just across
the old Tung Chung Road. This section is along a
catchwater, which runs for three kilometres.
At Distance Post L117, there is an excellent
view over the Cheung Sha Sheung Village. L119
marks the end of the catchwater. From here on
the Lantau Trail continues as a hillside path
for one and a half kilometres. The trail, with
stone steps and passing some dense woodland,
reaches South Lantau Road at Pui O. On the way,
the route overlooks the villages of Lo Uk and
Pui O San Wai. People have lived around Pui O
since the Ming Dynasty. As the narrow coastal
valley here looks rather like a spiral shell,
it was given the name Pui O. Until a few decades
ago, as elsewhere on Lantau, the Pui O villagers
lived from fishing and farming. But today the
place is a leisure resort, with shops and restaurants.
